December 8th-12th: Theme-Do you want to build a snowman?
Monday:
Skills this week. Doubles in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Less and More. Even and odd.
1) Sing doubles rap. Go over addition foldable, calling out a few problems for review.
2) Use Subtraction foldable to review doubles subtraction.
3) Sing multiplication rap. (below) Go over multiplication foldable for review. (no example, we made it ourselves)
Review shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
5) Teacher reference video for teaching basic division. Make each child a "pizza" out of a paper plate. Glue on toppings made either of yarn, buttons and craft items, or glue on pictures from magazines, or use markers to color. To make it a really fun lesson, ask your local pizza place for some clean empty boxes. Have each "pizza" cut up into 8 to 10 slices to teach the concept.
6) Make a division foldable.

Skills we are working on this week: Nouns, verbs, adjectives. ABC order. Procedural writing.
1) Introduce our word wall words for There Was A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow. pipe, coal, hat, stick, scarf, snowman. Kids will copy words onto lined paper.
2) Introduce the concept of ABC order. This teacher has some good advice here. I'm going to do my own thing though, after using her idea on circle time. I will update with pictures after we complete it. Using a file folder. Draw Seven boxes right next to one another, you will need six lines, since there are are six word wall words this week. Write the alphabet across the top of each child's file folder for a reference. Look and point at the letter A; ask children if any of our words begin with A." No? How about B? What about C? Yes! Do any of the other words begin with C? No, then we can write c.o.a.l--coal, into our first box." When we get to S, and everyone notices there are three words, have children first circle the letter S in their alphabet line. Give each child three circles one with the number 1, one number 2 ,and one number 3. Explain that if there are words that begin with the same letter, we need to look at the second letter to figure out which word will be first in ABC order. In the word scarf, c is before n or t, so the circle with number 1, will go above the c. 2 will go above the n and 3 above the t.
3) Watch, The Biggest Best Snowman, audio book.
Science:
I am going to fit in as much science this week ask possible. So I won't make a lesson or order, but list all the great resources I found.
